The National Association of Realtor is predicting real estate to start improving for the rest of 2008. Closed sales in our market through March are almost the same as we had in 2006 which was our 2nd best year. We look for a good 2008.
This report is showing an over supply in many price ranges but this is the time of year that our market starts moving up. We should be back to the number in the 3 months ago column real soon, the encouraging news is that it looks like we are improving in most price ranges from last month.
Now is a great time to buy! Interest rates are still great; 30 years are 6.0% and 15 year conventional rates are at 5.5%. It is not going to be a better time later to buy, buy now!!

Have you ever heard of the "home staging" profession? These individuals assist sellers with presenting their home in a fashion that will increase the likelihood of a full price offer. While the value added by such professionals is often worth the investment, many sellers can put the basics into action themselves, and enjoy the same benefits.
There are several "quick fixes" that stagers commonly recommend, and here are some highlights for your consideration as you prepare to market your home.
First, the dirty work. You've got to clean your windows, but don't forget about washing all the screens to let in as much sparkling sunlight as possible. In tiled bathrooms, clean and regrout the floors. You know what they say bout cleanliness!
Second, create space in two ways. In the kitchen, roll away any movable utility carts and clear clutter off the countertops and the refrigerator. In the rest of the home, move the furniture one to two feet away from the walls to create the illusion of more space.
Finally, impart a sense of warmth and coziness by making up beds with colorful sheets and comforters with matching window treatments. All of these preparations should make it that much easier for the buyers to imagine how comfortable they will be in this home. Your pride of ownership will encourage them to feel the same!
A Few Home Safety & Maintenance Ideas
|
· Put a smoke detector in your basement. That is where your furnace is, it may be a work room with lots of wood and flammable substance or it could be a playroom for children.
· Have trio of fire extinguishers. One in the kitchen that’s made to fight grease fires. One in the broom closet that is labeled for general purpose and another in the workshop that is especially made for wood fires.
· Reduce clutter. Make sure flammable items are as far away from the furnace as they can be and find another spot to store old papers.
· Don’t be a show-off. Criminals look for houses that contain something worth stealing. Keep that new stereo equipment, computer system or art collection away from a window or at least store out of sight.
· Conduct a broom check. Let your children take their fire safety know-how with them to Grandpa and Grandma’s house. Ask them to check the batteries in the smoke detectors at their grandparents’ home by using a broom handle to reach the test button.
· Ultimate Window Cleaner. Try combining 1 gallon hot water, ¼ cup liquid dishwasher detergent and 1 tablespoon Jet-Dry brand dishwasher rinse agent. Wash the window with a brush and then just hose them off. This works because rinse agents are designed to lower the surface tension of water causing it to sheet off dishes during the final rinse in your dishwasher. Does the same thing for your windows, eliminating streaks.
· Take a load off your refrigerator. The coils on the back disperse the heat but they also get covered with dust and gunk. Unplug the refrigerator and vacuum the coils once a year.
